a living museum of trees

Hoyt Arboretum | Portland, Oregon

Comprised of 189 acres of trees, ferns, gardens and trails, Hoyt Arboretum is an urban sanctuary located within the city of Portland.

Before 1850, the land that is now Hoyt Arboretum was a dense forest of Douglas-fir, Western red cedar, Western hemlock, big leaf maple, and red alder. In the 1930s, over 4,000 trees were planted in groups by family, and trails were created.

Today, this land serves as a living classroom for global plant biodiversity and environmental conservation. It is a public refuge where all people are invited to take part in mental, spiritual and physical enrichment.

The Redwood Deck is available for ceremonies through the Portland Parks & Recreation wedding lottery system. We entered the 2024 lottery and were lucky enough to win our first choice date: Thursday, June 20th.
